I bought you everything that you asked for,
everything but you wanted more,
I guess it wasn't quite enough.
I did everything that you asked me to,
everything that I could do,
I guess it wasn't quite enough.
I should have acted like a hopeless pessimist,
'cause I know that you're a sucker for that type,
and if I told you I was gonna kill myself,
maybe then you'd comfort me and hold me tight.
Will I ever learn?
I took you every place that you wanted to go,
every single place that I know,
I guess it wasn't quite enough.
I told you everything that you wanted to hear,
I said I loved you in your ear,
I guess it wasn't quite enough.
(Chorus)
No matter what I do
I'll never be with you
and if it ends that way
I guess I'll be okay
Henry the Hippo (for Grubby)! (04:15)
The point of this video is.... nothing. Grubby made me do this. I had to read from a script that he

@newhotman1001 excellent comment that sums it up. I usually add that The Hollies have one of the most distinctive group vocal sounds in pop rock history.

CreamTang: Thanks for the explanation. I'm 61, and the song is almost as old as I am, so this explained a lot. I've also noticed that, according to live footage, the Hollies were quite the band.

I am from Lansing, MI and listened to CKLW also. It was the greatest radio station of its time. I had a friend that was a friend to one of their dj's who loved being there. 50,000 watts of the most diverse music of that time.
